Balanced growth1

چکیده
Balanced growth has at least two different meanings in economics. In macroeconomics, balanced growth occurs when output and the capital stock grow at the same rate. This growth path can rationalize the long-run stability of real interest rates, but its existence requires strong assumptions. In development economics, balanced growth refers to the simultaneous, coordinated expansion of several sectors. The usual arguments for this development strategy rely on scale economies, so that the productivity and profitability of individual firms may depend on market size. The entry reviews the balanced growth debate, and the extent to which it has influenced development policies. 1 I am grateful to Gavin Cameron for valuable comments on a previous draft. Recursive Preferences and Balanced Growth1
We study a class of utility functions that are defined recursively by an aggregator W (x, y) where ut =W (ct, ut+1). In single-agent economies it is known that a sufficient condition for the existence of a balanced growth path is that utility should be homogenous of degree γ. In the context of a multi-agent economy we show that this restriction implies that either a balanced growth equilibrium ...
متن کاملSHOOT GROWTH1 Maintains Arabidopsis Epigenomes by Regulating IBM1
Maintaining correct DNA and histone methylation patterns is essential for the development of all eukaryotes. In Arabidopsis, we identified SHOOT GROWTH1 (SG1), a novel protein involved in the control of gene methylation. SG1 contains both a Bromo-Adjacent Homology (BAH) domain found in several chromatin regulators and an RNA-Recognition Motif (RRM). The sg1 mutations are associated with drastic...

topological conversions of DNAmolecules that are essential to bacterial growth1*. DNAgyrase is the target of two known classes of antibiotics: the coumarins, natural products that target the B subunit of the enzyme2'3), and the quinolones, synthetic products that target the A subunit of the enzyme and probably interfere with the DNA rejoining step of the gyrase-mediated DNAstrand-passing reacti...

متن کاملCharacterization of Transcriptome Remodeling during Cambium Formation Identifies MOL1 and RUL1 As Opposing Regulators of Secondary Growth
Cell-to-cell communication is crucial for the development of multicellular organisms, especially during the generation of new tissues and organs. Secondary growth--the lateral expansion of plant growth axes--is a highly dynamic process that depends on the activity of the cambium. The cambium is a stem cell-like tissue whose activity is responsible for wood production and, thus, for the establis...
